Kate Freemantle joined chambers in 2004.  Since then she has been instructed to prosecute and defend increasingly serious matters at courts throughout the Western Circuit.  She is a Grade 2 CPS Prosecutor.

She is regularly instructed in all types of criminal cases, including cases of serious violence, drugs supply and importation, as well as fraud and cases of a sexual nature, including cases involving children.

Kate has been instructed as Junior Counsel in a number of long running drugs conspiracy cases and in cases involving serious violence, including robbery and murder, and has had extensive dealings with the Very High Cost Case department of the Complex Crime Unit at the LCD.

Examples of recent cases include:

• R v D: Conspiracy to rob, alleged high value professional country house ties up robbery of antiques, jewellery etc.  Led Junior.  Defending.
• R v C: £1 million + conspiracy to supply Class A,B and C drugs, 9 defendants.  Led Junior.
• R v A: Murder, defending as Junior led by QC.  Acquitted.
• R v T: Large scale drugs supply and money laundering case with multiple sensitive disclosure issues.
• R v W: £120K theft by employee.
• R v N: Defending in a large-scale violent disorder.
• R v L: Supply of class A drugs to undercover officers, involving issues of disclosure and abuse of process.
