Oliver has a varied common law practice, specialising in employment, crime, personal injury, contract and public law. 

His employment practice includes instructions for both Claimants and Respondents.  Recent Tribunal experience includes claims of unfair dismissal, breach of contract, TUPE claims and working time/minimum wage regulations.

Before joining chambers Oliver spent 4 years as a member of the Home Office private law litigation team, taking instructions directly from the Home Office, Department of Constitutional Affairs and other major government clients.  During his time there he managed a diverse and politically sensitive case-load including employment, personal injury, misfeasance by public officials, alleged human rights infringements and public inquests into deaths in government custody.

He has personally acted for the government in major mediation involving alleged misfeasance by a Crown Prosecutor.

he has been a case-holder on two major public inquests into juvenille deaths in government custody.

He as acted as a government advocate in a range of interlocutory hearings and applications and smaller trials.

He is currently instructed as junior disclosure counsel to the Attorney General's Office in relation to the Guantanamo Bay damages claims.
