Michael Selfe has been a Western Circuiteer, throughout his career at the bar.  He both prosecutes and defends and has great experience in all aspects of criminal law, including homicide, violence, dishonesty and sexual offences.

He is regarded as an expert in the area of fraud and has been instructed in major fraud trials by the CPS, and the Department of Trade and Industry (prosecutions department), as well as receiving instructions from the Defence.

He is led in some cases, but is frequently instructed to act in serious cases as sole counsel, including cases of murder and manslaughter.

He is at present instucted in matters of fraud, money laundering and murder.  He has recently been involved in a case involving the gravest allegations of sexual abuse including incest.

Michael regularly appears to defend police officers, when instructed by solicitors acting for the Police Federation.

Michael takes a keen interest in continuing professional development for members of the legal profession and those associated with it.  He has lectured to the police, the Crown Prosecution Service as well as solicitors and barristers on the Western Circuit.  In addition he is a tutor judge with the Judicial Studies Board, (formerly JSB) assisting with continuing professional development for the judiciary.

Michael sits as a Recorder and has done for 25 years.
