    Some Recent Developments in Criminal Law. Issues and Developments in Sexual Offences

    Russell Pyne gave a lecture entitled Some Recent Developments in Criminal Law.  His talk dealt with a variety of changes, including those in abuse of process arguments, procedure, bail, disclosure and bad character.

    Elisabeth Bussey-Jones talked about Issues and Developments in Sexual Offences.  Elisabeth considered what impact the Sexual Offences Act 2003 has had and looked at case law since that act.  In particular she considered intoxication and the issue of consent.  She also talked about the operation of Sections 75 and 76: the evidential and conclusive presumptions.

    The talk was attended by solicitors, CPS lawyers and other professionals.

    An Update on Criminal Law by Adrian Fleming

    This update looked at Hearsay, witness anonymity, judicial bias, bad character, disclosure of pre cons of prosecution witnesses, refreshing the memory, bail curfews, alibi notices, violent offender orders.

    Changes in Youth Sentencing by Paul Dugdale. This dealt with the major changes which came in to force on 30/11/09 in relation to Youth Sentencing.

    This seminar was a shared event with the Crown Prosecution Service

    Advocacy – Trial Preparation by William Mousley and Adam Feest. This provided a guide to the drafting of indictments and a brief overview of the complex area of disclosure.

    Football and Criminal Law by Nick Hawkins CPP Hampshire.


    This talk looked at Football and Criminal Law from a practical perspective. It looked at Prosecution Policy and guidelines on football related offences. The relevant legislation was reviewed as well as evidence and procedure, particularly in relation to banning orders.
